Congressman Espina favors no elections in 2007 by: By Rodrigo S. Victoria

Naval, Biliran (23 December) -– Continuity in the implementation of projects and programs for the district and too much politicking in the country that hinders its desired economic take-off and political unity are the reasons why Congressman Gerry Boy Espina of the Lone District of Biliran favors the non holding of elections in 2007.
In an interview with the young solon after several days of hectic schedule of visitations to the different municipalities in the province of Biliran, he said that the draft proposal submitted by the 55-member Constitutional Commission (ConCom) specifically in its transitory provision which provides the non-holding of elections in 2007 and extending the term of office of elected officials until 2010 will surely be approved by majority of the congressmen.
Congressman Espina disclosed that although there were some opposition lawmakers who are against the non-holding of elections in 2007, these people actually are really in favor of it. “Their mouth is against it but deep inside will tell that they are really for no election in 2007’ Cong. Espina candidly stated.
He also admitted that having no elections in 2007 is a big favor on his part and to all other elected officials since they will no longer spend their hard-earned money and for the national government to save billions of pesos used during elections.
He cited the implementation of scholarship program to poor but deserving college students in the province where in most cases it took four years for a particular student to graduate in college. Congressman Espina admitted that this good program in providing a free tertiary education to poor but deserving Biliranons will be cut short in his three year term.
