The Philippine Tourism and the Biliran Province as well…

by marlon anthony mecaral
Last time when the Philippine tourism industries promoted and invited me to join then and helped boast our tourism, which I'm hesitant to refuse.
The tourism industry in the Philippines rallied behind Tourism Secretary Richard J. Gordon's efforts to check declines in tourism arrivals by committing to offer tour packages with value-for-money promotions and half-price discounts.
The federation of Tourism Industries of the Philippines (FTRIP), headed by Alejandra "Dading" (not Cojangco), informed Secretary Gordon that the federation 'raw' is working double time to put together these packages for immediate offering to the North Asian market including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China 'at sana, sa Naval Biliran'. he he he.
In an FTRIP meeting with Gordon at the DOT auditorium, the tourism chief urged the private sector to lose no time in working pro-actively to maintain Philippine gains and push forward with tourism growth goals despite current global travel woes and anxieties. Gordon emphasized to the private sector their crucial role in keeping tourism alive and kicking especially these days when Philippine exports are down. While the terrorism is on sway. 'ano ba yan?' He also cited projections of travel experts that travel to and within Asia will continue to grow prominently while many travelers will cast their sights on Asia as a safer travel destination in the aftermath of the Sept.11 attacks.
The Department of Tourism-Region III (DOT RIII), in cooperation with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency-Region III, is conducting a seminar on tourism security and safety last October 25, 2001 at the Marlim Mansions Hotel, Angeles City. The program includes topics on international terrorism, bomb familiarization kidnapping and identification, securing foreigners in and off campus, currency counterfeiting, credit card fraud, counterfeiting of travel documents, law enforcement response, among other subjects. Participants to the seminar include managers of DOT-accredited hotels and resorts, local tourism officers, schools with foreign students, entertainment centers, etc.
In line with DOT’s program to attract foreign visitors, the Returned and Services League Australia, an association composed of retired senior residents is holding the 1st Australia Day Fiesta last January 26-27, 2002 in Angeles City and maybe in Biliran Province if given the opportunity.
